THE GRACE AND TRUTH TEAM Jeff and Jill Williams Richard and Sharon Wildman
Jeff and Jill Williams have enjoyed a happy marriage sprinkled with some periods of stress and conflict. A move from the Midwest to the Washington, D.C. area in 2005, the departure of their oldest child from home, challenging events with their other children, and transition in Jeff’s career, have provided recent opportunities to “practice what they preach.” During this season, they learned first-hand that there are effective tools and good information available that can help any married couple.
“Our recipe to grow our own marriage included skills, information and marriage coaching that we had learned about and taught to others while serving in two different national marriage ministries. Today, our marriage is healthier, closer, and more fulfilling than ever before.”
Prior to working in ministry together Jeff practiced as a professional clinical counselor for 16 years while Jill focused on their home and children (now 20, 17, and 13 years old). In 2003, they began working together as a “team of two” to develop a counseling and coaching practice and to launch a community marriage initiative (Clark County, Ohio, 2004, www.marriageresourcecenter.org). “It was during that project that we realized that the state-of-the-art in relationship education is highly effective, and much, much better than most people realize. Now we are on a mission to share this news with as many people as possible.”
Today, Jeff and Jill provide marriage coaching to couples, consultation to churches and organizations for hiring and team-building, and teaching relationship education classes. They are certified in several relationship curricula and assessments, and are pioneering a unique approach to do marriage coaching. “We share passion to prevent unnecessary pain in relationships, and to help couples and individuals enjoy the abundant pleasure and purpose in their marriage, family, friendships and colleague relationships. We are committed to live honestly and authentically out of who God says we are, and to do as much as we can, as well as we can, to help others to do the same.” The Williamses reside in Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C. Jeff leads Grace & Truth Relationship Education as President, and Jill serves as VP of Operations. They also serve as co-directors of the marriage ministry of Dunamis International Ministries. Their daily schedule is a combination of coaching, consultation, writing and teaching.
Richard and Sharon Wildman understand first-hand about troubled marriages. Since early in their marriage of 22 years, they struggled with communication and conflict resolution. By the time they had been married 17 years their relationship had dwindled to conversations about only the essential matters regarding their farming operations and children.
With Sharon feeling as though she had no other option, the couple eventually separated for 16 months. Sharon began to plan for divorce while Richard, on the other hand, was resolved that God was going to intervene and heal their broken relationship. After having worked with four different counselors over a four-year period, the breakthrough finally came when they attended a PAIRS® seminar in October, 2004. They reconciled a few months later.
Richard and Sharon have a passion to share the skills they learned, applied and are now certified to teach, with as many couples as possible. With their goal to help others find hope in their struggles, they have taken what was a tragedy and turned it into triumph and a ministry. Their prayer is that no one will go through what they’ve experienced (1 Corinthians 1:4, NIV). And so, in August, 2005, the Wildman moved to the Washington, D.C. area as catalysts for change in marriage and family ministry.
Richard obtained a B.S. in Farm Management from Purdue University (1980) and has worked as a professional farm manager in Bloomington, Illinois. Following his father’s death, he moved back to his roots on the family farm in Ohio. In the past 27 years, Richard has crop-farmed, raised beef cattle, fed calves for a neighboring dairy, and run his own trucking company. Sharon has worked in the commercial division of a publishing company, served as art director for a collegiate sportswear company, was executive assistant to the owner of multiple restaurants, and served as bookkeeper for her former church in Ohio. Since moving to the D.C. area, she has been the office assistant for a national marriage ministry and most recently served as bookkeeper/ministry assistant for a church in Gaithersburg, Maryland, while bookkeeping for the Wildmans’ own farm and trucking company. Today, Richard and Sharon provide coaching to individuals and couples, consultation to businesses for hiring and team-building, and teach relationship education seminars. They are certified in several relationship curricula and assessments. The Wildmans are in the process of obtaining their professional coach certifications in August, 2008. Sharon is the VP of Development for Grace & Truth, and also serves as Jeff Williams’ Executive Assistant, while Richard hold the position of VP of Finance. They are enjoying being “empty nesters” as their 19-year-old twins, Matt and Sarah, have moved on to college.
